Breakthrough the “Blank Canvas Problem” with ChatGPT

“I have something to share with you today, but I haven’t figured out the topic yet.”

Maybe you’ve thought something similar when sitting down to write a paper in school or a prompt for ChatGPT.

Especially if you’re working on something that requires a lot of writing, like copywriting or tweeting, it’s important to learn how to get around the problem of “Writer’s Block”.

Some people may call it the “Blank Canvas Problem”.

We’re currently in the Wild West of AI, and learning to write useful prompts is like learning to sling a pistol.

The best prompt slingers will thrive.

This week I’ll show you how to write a high value prompt for ChatGPT, to generate ideas and to break through your creative blocks.

Let’s start with a prompt that’s short and sweet.

It goes like this, “What are some prompts I could use to engage with ChatGPT? I’m [your background or situation]. Provide examples.”*

This is what I received as a response:

This initial step breaks through your creative block by stirring up your thoughts, and it gets you typing.

Once you’ve read through the ideas, try one.

Take the idea that stands out to you, and respond using it, with any additional details you’d like to add.

Here’s the lesson: You have learned to engage AI in conversation for the purpose of ideation.

Your main goal here is to enter into a conversation with ChatGPT, just as you would talk with an expert or friend you’re brainstorming with or having a dialogue with about your topic of interest.

Then dive deeper into the conversation by asking more questions, to see where your creative discussion takes you.

Beginning the habit of ideating with AI may be what gives you an edge over your competitors, facilitates regular breakthroughs, or brings more flow to your day.
